I will add a password reset option soon, but I'm going to play around and do some tweaking while I brainstorm on a future plan.

EDIT:  I'm going to put that on hold, but if you have trouble remembering your password let me know.  I can manually send you a temporary password through your registered email.

So far so good.  Looks like everything is up and running with the new update.  I cleared all offers.  This will prevent inadvertent trades until people can update their accounts.  If you have any problems let me know.
I think I've found it!  SQLObject was caching when it should have been querying the database.  I think this version is finally worthy of a launch.  I will bring the site down after trading today.

I am tracking down a very elusive bug.  It looks like Saturday will be too soon.  Hopefully, by Sunday, I will be ready.

I think Saturday is the day.  I might have to keep the site down for quite some time, so I'm going to halt trading on Saturday.

Let me explain what it is I'm trying to achieve, but first of all, let me summarize what I believe.  I do not believe in the intrinsic value of material things.  A ton of gold is worthless to a starving man who can't find a farmer.  In other words, "intrinsic value" is a human invention.  The value of something is determined by what another person is willing to pay for it

So what am I trying to do?  I am trying to create a market where people determine the value of Bitcoins when they buy and sell them with one another.  A classical market.  Unfortunately, it is unrealistic to have a centralized system for trading.  A centralized system requires a centralized account, whether PayPal, a bank, or other.  A centralized account is a bad idea.  This is why I'm creating a system that allows people to trade cash directly with one another.  At the same time, I want to retain the basic elements of a classical market.  This will not be easy.
I moved News to this blog.  You may leave questions and suggestions here if you like.  This will be a good place to check, if the main website is ever down.

To be honest, I've been playing around with CSS and adding some "style" to the next incarnation.  It looks almost professional, but I'll let you guys be the judge of that.  These next few days I will do some touch-ups and hardcore testing of the back-end scripts.

I will be testing and streamlining over the next few days. I will tentatively put a week on the release. Everyone will need a PayPal account before placing any offers!  After the trade is conducted, an email is automatically sent to the buyer with the PayPal account of the seller.  Therefore, it's necessary to have the email already in the database.  I will work on adding Moneybookers, but that will come later.

I have an early working version, but it's hacked together. It's going to be a few more days before I have something worthy of testing. The transfer of Bitcoins will be automated! But, cash payments will depend on the swiftness of the buyer, since it will be up to him or her to initiate the transfer.

I didn't transfer the Orders (now called Offers) or the Last Trades to the new database. It would have been too tedious and prone to mistakes. Everything else should have transfered correctly. If you see anything wrong with your account, please let me know. I have a backup of the database right before I did the transfer.

I need to bring the server down today for the new update. It will be sometime after 5PM. It may take all evening and night depending on how it goes.

Saturday, April 3, 2010

Progress continues on the next update. It should be ready in a week. The main features will be an in depth view of bids/asks, multiple order placement, and trade history on each individual.
